À propos du QOMSBOC / About QOMSBOC
Dedicated to the exhibition of scientific development at the graduate level, the 24th Quebec-Ontario Mini-Symposium on Bioorganic and Organic Chemistry (QOMSBOC) Conference is the premier regional conference in this field of research. The unique structure of the conference is the focus on graduate student presentations, with the vast majority of all abstracts featuring graduate students as the presenter. In previous years, the conference has attracted between 150 and 250 participants, ranging from graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, representatives from research-based organizations as well as several faculty members (U. Montreal, U. Laval, U. Sherbrooke, McGill U., Concordia U., U. Ottawa, U. Toronto, U. Western Ontario, U. Waterloo, Queens U., etc). The conference features three keynote speakers, one academic faculty member in bioorganic chemistry, one academic faculty member in synthetic organic chemistry, and one industrial researcher.

The main scope of the QOMSBOC is to promote graduate students and their research. The conference provides students with an opportunity to showcase their research projects through posters and oral presentations in a single session event where all attendees are exposed to leading edge research in our region. The conference provides an interactive arena for dialogue with respect to research and career opportunities since representatives from chemical research companies and universities are among the attendees.

The QOMSBOC is a three-day event consisting of oral and poster presentation categories. Friday evening is the registration and opening mixer, followed on Saturday by a full day of oral presentations including two keynote lectures. Saturday evening starts with a poster session and is followed by the conference banquet. Finally, Sunday morning is the final session that also includes the third keynote speaker that is followed by the closing remarks and closing of the conference. Participants are evaluated based on their presentation and a question period by a panel of judges and awards are presented to outstanding participants.
